At Minny live blog.
This is a big game in terms of are they playing well enough to beat State. It probably has nothing to do with actually winning, but it is a good night for Michigan if something happens from the bench. As for the game, assuming the defense shows up, the question is who if anyone will get the hot hand and score.
A barn in the arctic sounds cold. What is with the white floor, is that snow? Seriously, what is wrong with the way it was and Minnesota Gopher colors?
9-6. Michigan looks very composed. I think this is a good thing, no turnovers. You cannot criticize Michigan's offensive rebounding because when they shoot they run back.
Iggy hitting is good news. Michigan's defense and Minnesota fouls is really good news.
Colin Castleton in and fouling is not a happy situation. He does look tall! And mobile and athletic. Maybe his grandmother lives up there.
Nice lead. Michigan is playing patiently. Minnesota is missing easy shots and Michigan is getting the rebounds. That is the difference. A few 3's and a few misses equals big lead, 17-6.
Now DeJulius is in.
Michigan is just chucking 3's and, given the defense, it is working. Bizarre how Beilein plays when they are ahead. They rely on their defense and the offense sputters but they hold on. Keep the starters out (Iggy may not count) and play others until they fail. It looks like they will fail. The offense is a crapshoot.
Is Beilein toying? Come on, Iggy, be the go-to guy! No.
22-14. Without Teske rebounding and blocking Michigan would be losing. And Simpson steals. Those are the key pluses for the Wolverines.
Michigan is not winning, Minnesota is losing because they cannot make a shot.
Castleton in again. He's not bad... Why hasn't he played before? Nunez is still a stranger.
24-14. 14!! This is like high school in terms of offensive talent, both sides. It sounds like a h.s. auditorium.
28-16. Please, halftime! I'd rather watch commercials. Michigan looks lulled to sleep and they are challenging for just as bad.
11.5 and hold them. DK. Yes. Talented offense. 18.
Same kinda thing for Michigan. In games like this they need X. Yes, Teske says it is X and he knows. They need him to just take it home...
The Minnesota cheerleaders look pale.
We're back and it is 40-22. I guess things are going OK. Poole has 13 and Iggy 10. Michigan with 12 assists and 5 steals, plus 7 blocks (Teske 9 pts 5 blks). Castleton is in the box score with 1 PF.
Minnesota 10-44 FG.
Michigan 9/21 from 3; Minnesota 0/7. Minnesota not enough points. 50-31 @ 10:55.
Michigan is still ahead but they are still playing down to their opponent. 53-40, 55-42. Another block (not counted in stats). Shooters too, Minnesota is good but I think Michigan has better athletes. I think Richard Pitino would be a really good coach if he had better athletes. At this point Minnesota is just kind of methodical. 64-47 with 3:15. Minnesota just does not have the firepower, I think, to come back.
69-60. Not very close. State, Nebraska, Maryland, and State again is all that is left.
