The 2025-2026 season will be over in a couple of weeks and three of the four big-time transfers will declare for the NBA draft and probably go in the first round. Twenty-four year-old Nimari Burnett will or should retire; Tschetter and Gayle are out of eligibility. L.J. Cason, with McKenney, one of the two links to the future is in terms of the team is out until further notice. Elliot Cadeau is likely to go the way of Tre Donaldson--stay or not.
27-2 and 17-1 is truly amazing.
As a whole, the team is very good. Dustin May will probably do something similar next season.
The nine who play play hard. The Illinois game was a big win. When I write a column about a game I always ask myself: Why did they win? In this one they were in the lead by 5-10 points most of the game; the Illini were chasing and that is exhausting. Michigan were better shooters, rebounders, passers, and arguably stronger and more athletic. They are a better team and coached to the maximum roles and results.
But for me, the team is not easy to like. Is May just another Harbaugh?
The team will be completely new again starting in a month.
