Maryland Preview
This is the time of the football season when stats begin to matter. Those above are bizarre for Michigan.
Michigan right now is arguably a top 10 team, which means they are on a path to beat every opponent left on the schedule except Ohio State.
Since Magnus is too busy to compile the stats, I will do it. These don't have numbers on them. I'll have to guess. Michigan is near the top in defense, especially so the last few games. They are near the middle in offensive yards and points, but they have a lot of weapons. Confidence is important for college players.
Maryland appears to be in the lower half for both defense and offense. They seem to be going downhill and I do not mean that in a positive, aggressive, football sense. They also have a terrible coach who doesn't have any confidence in anybody.
Michigan at this point reminds me of Harbaugh's first year. That team had experienced years of frustration and ridicule under Brady Hoke and Dave Toys and Pizza. They were hungry. This team, including those who have or will transfer, have not endured anything like that.
Those were the days when, on defense, they did not just want to win they wanted shutouts. Don Brown>D.J. Durkin. On offense they had a senior and transfer as quarterback who just needed to learn the system. He, and those around him, already had Big Ten and big game experience. All they had to do was come together and realize it.
Remember, Harbaugh is the guy who inspires the after-game walkaway.
Michigan 52 Maryland 0.
