A loss will compel me to write a terrible screenplay featuring Jon Teske and Zavier Simpson as ill-matched detectives who are awful at solving crimes.
Actually, the idea has some traction. They succeed, similar to Inspector Clouseau, to a degree based on sheer luck. Their reputation precedes them. Obviously, they are recognizable. They offer a unique story that will live on regardless.
I am or was a marketing researcher. I had duel majors at Michigan (psychology and anthropology) and went on to obtain a masters in that (mostly survey research). I use this word with deference and caution, but I hated Michigan and Ann Arbor. South Quad and the economy triple made it intolerable. The Shant and the Deke house helped me get through.
Mostly my problem was I had no direction, little ambition, and I am lazy. It all just happened, and graduating in four years from two highly-rated departments was the best I could do.
Now I think it is an amazing place if you want to excel academically.
Which reminds me, they are supposed to be good in football and basketball as well as other scholarship sports, also. Those are about all I follow. There is always news. Following recruiting and knowing the players is a big part of it too. Ordinarily, I would watch in the Fall and tune in the big games but that is about it. News, blogs, and the internet now make it year round.
Boy I wish mgoblog.com had hired Brendan Quinn or Nick Baumgardner or any one the laid-off, up and coming, or otherwise available sportswriters that the new age has spawned. Gosh, I don't even remember the names of the ESPN cadre that is now so hard to find and rare to see. They are off doing something else, like the occasional big story and potential scandal. I can only imagine the potential of one of those writers given the freedom cover and write on a site like Brian Cook's.
To combine it with some real or old-fashioned journalism, like attending press conferences, would be the other part. Experienced journalists working for big organizations know how to do this--colleagues, expense accounts, sources, and the like. Who really covers Michigan sports anymore? That would be something special.
The Ace Pod? I'm sorry, I just don't tune in. A lot of mgoblog.com has turned into market research. Let's throw something out there and see if it sticks. And the forums have become criticisms of the content and site design. That is the weirdest thing: snarky forum comments about the site itself.
But occasionally Brian still comes up with one. As Picasso said, artists steal.
It is time for the Fighting Illini. OMG, it is some kind of animal show. I think the game comes on next.
