A Spade

Time to call a spade a spade.

When Beilein left it was possible Wardy had a just-as-good replacement in mind.

No, Michigan is not that great a job, at least not desirable enough for super-successful college coaches now in the NBA.  I am referring to Donovan and Stevens.

That the search is apparently down to the Providence guy and Juwan Howard is not good news.

Specifically, Ed Cooley is not in Beilein's class in terms historical or recent accomplishments.  Never go backward.  The new coach should be someone as good or better.

Howard has never been a head coach so it cannot be said that he is a successful one.  Yes, "people" speak highly of him as an up-and-comer (e.g., other interviews).  Yawn.  Much more importantly, the Fab Five were rotten, not at basketball, but in terms of bribes and corruption.  It took Michigan basketball many years of less than .500 extreme mediocrity to get over the dirt.  Coaches in the past include Tommy Amaker (clean and now a winner) and Brian Ellerbe.

The point is not that these are bad coaches, it is that Michigan took decades to get over the scum.  Howard is part of the history Beilein, the team, and the fans have moved on from.

Never go back, as in backward.
