I don't like about Jim Harbaugh.
9. Podcasts.
It was exciting when news of the coming weekly podcasts was leaked. There was this big institution and a nationally-ranked team and Harbaugh refused to release a two-deep let alone a roster. People who follow, fans, and probably players all wanted to see it. Harbaugh is a fanatic about grading and ranking everything, so certainly there was at least a notion of it. No one in the university had the moxie to say anything.
What a great idea, have a weekly podcast to talk about the team and the season on your own terms. Unlike a press conference Harbaugh can control each word. But he can finally tell his side. It is brilliant marketing, current technology, and a fantastic way to connect to the fanbase.
Too bad it is codger recollections with the ubiquitous Jack about people injured or worse (CTE) in a dying sport. But college football is still about the atmosphere and spectacle, and Harbaugh is still good at that.
8. His Stanford pre-game speech.
He was just like what's his name at Purdue, who is a bad person. Jumping on a table or throwing a chair, one or both. By then they were already good and Harbaugh was revered. It was one of those filmed locker room things so everyone knew it. Harbaugh looked retarded. But the real problem was the team cheered and shouted like cultists. When is enough adulation enough, JH?
7. Shoot yourself in the foot self promotion.
6. Salary.
5. Hiring everyone.
4. Just a football coach.
3. Excessive gamesmanship including secrecy.
2. The N.F.L.
1. He is a poor loser.
