Summer Sports

Harbaugh is annoying, but it also seems he has settled into his role as Michigan coach.  He isn't quite making the headlines anymore, still, you know they are going to be good.

And it is going to be exciting because, at the moment, we don't know how or why.

The defensive line with Hurst, Gary, Mone, and Winovich should be outstanding.  Depth is going to be an issue, but Michigan is clearly moving toward play in years one and two (more on that in a bit).

Linebacker will be solid with McCray, Bush, Jr., and Hudson.  Someone else will emerge too.  The secondary will be all new:  Washington, Hill, Kinnel, and Metallus?

The other position of strength, behind DL, is quarterback.  Speight threw for 2,538 yards in 2016 and the position overall will improve with the addition of O'Korn and Peters.  Elsewhere on offense Khalid Hill is a given, Evans seems like the likely candidate to break out among Higdon, Isaac, and Walker, and wide/slot receiver is anyone's guess.  At tight end, it isn't likely Ian Bunting will match the production of Jake Butt and the guess here is that Wheatley, Jr. will have a break-out year with the departure of his father.

Oh, the offensive line and kickers.  Kickers are top recruits.  The offensive line will be no worse than whatever has been happening in recent years.  TFLs are a thing of the past and that trend will continue.

So Michigan is ranked in the preseason top 10?  We'll see and that'll be in about a month, what this new team will look like.  Just like in Harbaugh's first year, 2015 and the 'champions of the west' pre-conference schedule, they will come out fit and faster.

News is scare this time of year.  Mgoblog is a disaster --  could you scrunch on any more ads in between useless fluff?  The TTB countdown?  Magnus just announced he's going to have less time; anyway, it is sometimes fun to see what he has to say about players like Reuben Jones because there's usually some insider gossip and an explanation.

The Michigan roster?  I don't even know where to find it.  It has been turned upside down by years of rebuilding.  So far Harbaugh has provided a quick fix, good in 2015 and really good in 2016.  Last year they were a few points away from winning them all.

There is a month to go until a really big game against Florida.  Now serious practices are starting and that is sinking-in.  We'll find out awfully soon.  Who will emerge?  Most of the freshmen and sophomores are in the top-300 range if not a lot higher.  Who'll be out for the year.  All we can really say for now is Harbaugh has a plan for this year.
