The Big Ten Tournament

John Beilein is probably the perfect foil to Jim Harbaugh.

  • Matt Painter has evolved into a really good, really personable coach.
  • Spike Albrecht is a traitor, as in intelligence spy traitor.  What does he bring physically?
  • I like watching D.J. Wilson play defense on centers and I love watching Michigan (e.g., Zak Irvin) double down.  RE Wilson, there are other ways than brute force and shot-blocking is an art.
  • It is cool hearing Moe introduced as "Vaaagner."
  • I have never heard an announcer (Dan Dakich) say "Why don't they just let him...  I'm going to go talk to someone."  This, referring to Isaac Haas.

The Big Ten sure has a lot of transfer and older players; next up, Minnesota, with Reggie Lynch and without Akeem Springs.  Against Illinois it was the 25-year old 6th year scorer.

Richard Pitino...  The 8-loss regular season is real, but is it just a little bit smoke and mirrors?  Probably not and he could have a long career at Minnesota because he has something going on.  Nate--House Party, that's it!--Mason was recruited by Pitino.

Michigan has, once again, become a really fun team to watch because Beilein too knows what he is doing.  They're not just going through the motions.  They have a way to win, and usually it is has something to do with 3-pointers.

Mighty Purdue, with Haas AND Caleb Swanigan, did Michigan beat them because of the 3-pointer or the threat of the 3-pointer?  D.J. Wilson was terrific but I don't know.

In tournament(s) and against different teams you have to be able to play different styles.  Beilein and Michigan always have a strategy to win.  Which last-minute win and which player was it who said afterward, "Coach, what do you want me to do" after scoring the winning basket?

Against Minnesota, seemingly it is let 'em shoot, don't foul, and we'll outscore them.  Go at their bigs and thin bench.
