The board of regents, all thirty-four of them, did it because they could. All over the web opinion bloggers are saying it was the right thing to cut the fungus at its source. They could get out from under the ten-year contract for cause.
Ken Starr said you can't get me because there is no smoking gun and he is staying. He has been contrite, but wait, he was asked to apologize:
Schad reported that at one point, Baylor’s Board of Regents asked president Ken Starr to “apologize to victims on behalf of Baylor University and accept responsibility for what occurred on his watch.”
The AD, the one who said we are going to prove it to everyone, about God, football, sports and Baylor, is staying too, but barely. He is the architect of the post-Dave Bliss era. Ian McCaw:
"Our role is to glorify God through our athletic program.”
Oh so close you were, Baylor, to playing Michigan or Ohio State in a marquee game, and doing it with regularity. But you weren't there yet. You've been found out and it is over probably for a long while.
Anyone want to buy a used condo, I mean football stadium, formerly named for Drayton McLane?
Faculty members have to sign some sort of religious pledge? Wasn't there another famous religious cult in Waco?
Baylor has always been a culture of imports and quick fixes. Just Google "Baylor basketball Africa."
It will be fun to read the details in the coming weeks because thirteen pages aren't enough. I knew about Sam Ukwuachu and had heard of Tevin Elliott. I had not heard of Shawn Oakman. Phil Taylor was also from Penn State, and Lache Seastrunk... Logic suggests a pattern and there will be more names and maybe even more accusations.
And the NCAA, the Department of Education, and others, will almost certainly come calling too.
For now, congrats to the board for taking strong action.
Art Briles has been silent. His daughter Staley, who is married to an assistant coach who probably is not long for Baylor either, says his side will come out. We're talking about rape and a known pattern.
Until then... Art Briles is a fraud. It is just football and you are just a football coach. To be on that level and on that stage, not understanding is not going to cut it.

Excellent. "Turn-around artist," "paper hero," and "bold and telling example." The last one, less so given the largest Baptist university part. Let's take Shawn Oakman as an example. What does Art Briles know about a kid from Philadelphia that Bill O'Brien doesn't? Next, Ian Mccaw... But first, Outside the Lines. Journalism, reporting, transparency, and real live interviews. For those of us a little unfamiliar with sexual assault, there is no excuse.
