We often don't know exactly who or why or how. Put another way, can someone just glide through if they want to, or if everyone dislikes them (teammates and coaches), and they don't play? And isn't the fifth year kind of blatant, meaning you are allowed to stay if you are on the field valuable now?
It is starting. Ross Taylor-Douglas. He hung around and played running back. He was in several games, maybe as many as Ty Issac or Derrick Green. At one time, the start of the sanctions, he was a Penn State flip. Now he is a new kind of free agent: a graduate transfer with two years left. History degree? Wow.
David Reese (Florida) wanted to enroll early and was talking about a masters...
Next, not a surprise and who can complain because he graduated, is Terry Richardson. The too-short Cass Tech corner myth has been thankfully debunked by Jourdan Lewis. Let's just say Richardson followed the fat/criminal Boubacar Cissoko. Remember that game when the out of shape Cissoko was picked-on mercilessly? Richardson was a solid 4-star. Maybe now we'll find out a little more about him.
Finally in this edition of attrition, there is Willie Henry.
Henry was a bit of a throw-in if you look at it from the perspective of a no-conscience fan assessing the class.
This was Brady Hoke's first full, all on his own, class. For some reason it was ranked 6th. Never have the phrases those who stay or those who play been more true. It is like fraud because everyone thought Brady was right on track. Very few stayed or played.
For some reason Willie Henry's recruitment was not on fire. He was a late addition out of Glendale High School in Cleveland, Ohio. Ted Ginn, Sr., Glendale High Tarblooders, I don't know. There was something weird.
It is strange too that we have not heard rumors of Ryan Glasgow going pro and he may not even have a scholarship for his fifth year. He is probably the team's best and most important returning player. Or maybe that compliment goes to Jourdan Lewis. Jake Butt was sure decisive in declaring himself blue. Chris Wormley too decided early on to end the conjecture, and there are other names too... The team MVP was Jehu Chesson.
Ohio State lost nine to earlier than necessary departures because it is a different team there. Perhaps it is a different culture but the team is made up of players and nine players, accompanied by early blah statements, tweets, and criticisms, chose to leave. Ohio State did not want Henry and that is clear. All the Ted Ginns are more fond of Ohio State than they are Michigan and that is obvious too.
There are all kinds of reasons to do it. Congrats to Willie Henry for putting himself in such a position--assuming it is rational and he will benefit over the next couple of years.
The feeling here is you don't go there just to make it to the NFL. It is a different game and whole different reason for being. A pro football career probably will not last more than a few years; if it does, you may be destroying your brain and your body. It can wait a year.
Also, Frank Clark is a poor role model.
